10 Reasons Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize

with 6 comments

Here are the 10 reasons I believe President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize:

  1. He has promised to close Guantanamo, although that is taking longer than he thought;
  2. he is wrapping up our involvement in Iraq;
  3. he is re-thinking the conventional wisdom on Afghanistan;
  4. he has engaged the Iranians, North Koreans, Cubans, Chinese, and others;
  5. he has restarted the Mideast peace process;
  6. he has reframed our relationship with Russia and their satellite states;
  7. he has gone to Cairo to address Muslims in their own country, both engaging and cautioning them on the US role in the world;
  8. he led our nation in a rescue of the world financial markets;
  9. he has the approval of 77% of Europeans; and,
  10. he has restored faith that America can be a moral voice, a reasonable voice in a very unreasonable and immoral world.

None of those accomplishments are complete, but the game has changed, and the President led the way.  I for one think it’s a good day in America today!

  2. While I respect your opinion, to me, this is an embarrassment of the highest magnitude. President Obama is a dangerous man who has done a great deal of harm to the American people. With his constant apologetic overtones to nearly the entire world, it is no wonder so many people fawn over him; he’s just like so many of them.

    You wrote “he has restored faith that America can be a moral voice, a reasonable voice in a very unreasonable and immoral world.” Oh, my! He is the most left-leaning politician we’ve seen in numerous years, and his stance on moral issues is disturbing, to say the least. He certainly has little room to talk morality to the rest of the world. BTW, when did this come about?

    You also said “he led our nation in a rescue of the world financial markets;” but failed to add, “all the while bankrupting our country.” Again, when has he led our nation in a rescue of the world financial markets?

    He won simply because he can make a speech and read off a teleprompter. There is little or no substance to President Obama. He joins the company of some other really great Nobel recipients (I’m being facetious): Al Gore and Yasser Arafat, just to name a couple.

    I could give probably 20 reasons why he should not have received even one vote, but that is not the intention of this comment or in the scope of your post. Thank you for the opportunity to shed some light on this travesty.

  3. And this is what makes America great — the right to disagree and debate. Thanks to both of you for your comments!

  4. I also have to disagree with your assessment. I once received a resume in which the person listed as accomplishments; “ran for several political offices” (no indication he won any of them) and “author of several unfinished novels.

  5. Chuck,

    To say that Barack Obama has not accomplished anything yet is, well, . . . borderline absurdity.

    To say that he is a man of little or no substance is, well . . . have you read his books — the ones (all of them) that he wrote himself?

    We can agree or disagree about his winning the Nobel Peace Prize. There are valid things to say on all sides of this question. But we ought to try to leave the absurdities outside of the room.
