We are not afraid
Those who would divide and
conquer the electorate in this primary season will find their 20th century strategy inappropriate and ill-received, for this time, we are not afraid. We are not afraid of each other, but affirm in one another those differences that make us each unique. We are not afraid of ideas or beliefs that differ from our own because a plurality of ideas and beliefs enriches our society.
We are not afraid of those who would divide us because we have seen those tactics used before to seize temporary victories, while sowing the seeds of long-lasting suspicion. We will not fall victim to fear again. We are not afraid of the future because we believe it holds better promise than the past. We are not afraid of change, but seek to shape that change to bring about a better world for all. We are not afraid that some individual or some group will gain an advantage that we do not have, but are grateful when anyone or any group rises to new levels of hope and accomplishment.
We are not afraid of inspiration because we want to join the vision of those who see the future as a place of hope. We are not afraid to put feet to our feelings, to live the dream, and to invite others to join the parade toward the possible. We are not afraid of words that give voice to our hopes, and echo the deep longings of our hearts. We are not afraid to hear the challenge, work together, and give of ourselves to make this country great again.
No, this time we are not afraid. And the politics of fear will not have its way with us again. We are the people we’ve been waiting for, and we are not afraid.

This is wonderful, Chuck. Well done!

Hi Chuck…I am not afraid, just less optomistic (sorry). I guess I could agree with the statement, “a plurality of ideas and beliefs enriches our society,” if some sort of modifying clause followed, like, “so long as they do not violate the unalienable rights of mankind”…or something along those lines. History shows when certain ideas and beliefs go unchecked, the rights of a society/culture/people are vanquished (i.e. hitler).
I understand that in a postmodern society, boundaries of such are an embarrassment. I realize that you are talking about the primaries and in this setting we are far from experiencing the attrocities of the nazi regime know matter who is elected; however, there are many who feel that certain candidates may enact policies that would deprive them of certain God given rights…a viewpoint, whether rational or not, must be given vocality in the above mentioned postmodern society.
Anyway, I love the blog. My wife and I have been on a similar journey as eden’s path and have found it not only a relieving experience, but a spiritually centering one.
I would love to ask your opinion on a subject or two. If you get a chance email me (nostawetan@gmail.com). Feel free to stop by my blog (http://natewatson.blogspot.com.
peace!
